Lost Souls FOUND! Inspiring Stories About Herding-Breed Dogs is a heartwarming, thought-provoking compilation of more than 50 true stories that address the cruelty of animal neglect and abuse and the joy rescued dogs bring to their new homes. This book is a must-read for fans of Australian Cattle Dogs (ACDs, aka Blue Heelers and Red Heelers), Border Collies, Collies, Shelties (aka Shetland Sheepdogs) and Corgis! The book is perfect for those looking to bring a dog into their lives, too, as it is a great way to learn about life with these breeds. A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF PROCEEDS FROM EVERY SALE IS DONATED BACK TO HERDING BREED RESCUE GROUPS.
Excerpt "The first few months with Clem, my adopted Cattle Dog, were impossibly difficult. She was skittish and shy of everything. She constantly chewed and got in the trash. Every noise and movement caused her to roll over and pee in submission. The shelter s behavior helpline was quick to suggest giving her a job to do, attending classes that used positive training techniques, and providing lots of exercise. Playing disc, flyball, and agility immensely helped her behavior to improve! Clem knew I would change from pajamas to jeans before taking her outside. One day, as she whined to go out, I said, Hang on! You know I have to change my pants. She cocked her head to one side and trotted off to the bedroom. Thirty seconds later she came back dragging a pair of my jeans that she had dug out of the laundry basket. I had never taught her this trick. That s when I realized she was much smarter than I had thought!" -Aly Jabrocki

I have been reading the Happy Tails books since the first one, which I think was about either Labs or Golden Retrievers. They are always full of heart warming stories as well as valuable information about the day to day reality of living with various breeds of dogs.
My only complaint with this book about herding dogs is that because it combines several breeds including Corgis, Collies, Australian Cattle Dogs, and Border Collies, I fear that readers unfamiliar with herding breeds might not be able to tell that these breeds have some significant differences. I don't know much about Corgis, but I doubt that they have the high activity requirements that distinguish border collies.
Too many Border Collies end up in Rescue because their first (or even subsequent) owners don't understand that they NEED A JOB. They will be happy doing just about any activity their owners desire, but they will destroy your house if you leave them with nothing to do! This was well communicated by the stories about Border Collies that are embedded in this volume.
I also enjoyed learning about Australian Cattle Dogs, which was a breed I knew nothing about. That is one of my favorite things about Happy Tails Books.

Lost Souls Found! Inspiring Stories About HerdingBreed Dogs Kyla Duffy Lowrey Mumford 9780984680153 Books Reviews
This book is filled with inspiring stories about the challenges and triumphs of living with a rescued dog. Anyone who has ever rescued a dog will relate to the writers as they talk about their dogs blossoming into "real dogs" as they await the tail wag that says I am happy to finally be in my forever home. Anyone who has ever loved any dog will love the stories about canines who are recieving a second chance. Having rescues benefit from the sale of this book is brilliant and will result in even more stories with happy "Forever Home" endings.
Gave this to my friend's daughter who is a regular Dr. Doolittle. it was her most cherished gift that Christmas.
Lovely book and a favorite in our charity auctions.
I'm very pleased by this book. My dog and I actually met one of the other authors posted in the book as well. His dog is beautiful and such a sweet girl. The girls get along great!
This book was very inspirational, a great boook! The stories are real and touching. Herding-Breed Dogs are some of the smartest dogs and they are very special. Just read the book!
A truly inspiring read with an outstanding cover photo! The stories speak for themselves. The photo is of "Sadie" an Australian Shepherd (not a Border Collie) as incorrectly identified in the book. Sadie is a volunteer at Hospice having received her credentials from Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs. She is also the recipient of the designation "TH.D" as an AKC Certified Therapy Dog.
Sadie is a sweet and loving dog grateful to be choosen as a "cover girl." Just look at that smile !
Of course, being in the book we HAD TO ORDER! But what a great way to spend some time... reading such wonderful stories about such WONDERFUL rescued animals! Just because someone else gave up on these great dogs doesn't make them "broken" or "problem" animals... they just needed a chance to show the world what they can do with the right leadership and love from the right family! So many inspring success stories that are heartwarming. Being in rescue now for almost 7 years in TX/VA I have met some of the most caring, inspirational people; after receiving the book, I recognized many those names! This book is a great read for anyone that enjoys the breed, but also wants to be inspired to give a second chance to a rescued dog. For a lot of dogs, coming into rescue is the BEST part of their lives; we help match them with the perfect forever family, a family that is informed about the breed and wants to put the time into making them a member of their family and in many cases a wonderful teammate also! That's what the Best Deal in Town is, in most cases, there are WONDERFUL dogs in rescue that are already housebroken, crate trained, smart, athletic and loving family dogs that we can give you an evaluation prior to bringing in a new family member! Having several rescues that have and are competing now in agility, reading the sporting stories are my favorites! Taking someone else's "throwaway" and turning them into a loving, competitive, family member is what it's all about! I hope this book inspires more people to ADOPT, ACHIEVE AND ASTONISH!!
